Congratulations The Cabinet Of Johnny Paintstroke film for being nominated for best Animation at iChill Manila Int Film Fest!
The creative process is a microcosm of human experience. While at times it can be an inspiring and stimulating experience, artistic creation is filled with moments of fear and self-doubt. The Cabinet of Johnny Paintstroke follows the character of Johnny Paintstroke, a painter at work in his studio, as he experiences his personal struggle for self-expression. Self-reflection becomes horror as Johnny Paintstroke confronts and attempts to conquer the inner barriers restricting him from expressing himself completely through his paintings.
In the Cabinet of Johnny Paintstoke inner thoughts and feelings take physical shape and become visceral entities. Dialogue is not spoken but appears as three-dimensional word and thought bubbles which physically occupy the space and at times interact with the characters. Paint strokes are liberated from the canvas, operating independently to form and create an alter ego of the artist. While the artist is filled with fear and self-doubting, his artistic creation is a proactive being with the drive to do what is necessary for artistic creation. The ensuing struggle reflects the process of overcoming the obstacles we create for ourselves internally that inhibit our progress and evolution as individuals.
