Director Biography – Robert William Anchuvas Pereña

Robert William Anchuvas Pereña, or Robbie as many call him, is an editor and experimental filmmaker, who fuses basic and atypical techniques together to form various visual forms of art. Involved with many projects that provide him with challenges,

Robert uses this experience to level up every film he cuts away –
every frame at a time.

His previous projects include an award-winning feature film documentary, Black Sheep, a film about the transgender community in

India which he edited, mostly consisting of language not native to
him. Robert has also worked with various music videos, most of
which he brings out his experimental slate to form a visual aesthetic that blends in naturally both
with the song and artist.

Apart from collaborating with such artists, he too uses his time to hone his own craft – specifically in editing and experimental filmmaking.

His most recent short film project, Juniper, is a traditionally
rotoscoped project which consists of 2880 printed frames of a film he had shot. Each frame was then individually drawn over by more than 40 volunteer participants using a combination of mediums and recycled materials. This feat took a total of three weeks to make.

With the variety of work he has kept under his belt, he uses this experience to teach students full
time as a lecturer in SAE Institute Dubai, teaching cinematography and post production. He was
also included as one of the jury members in 2017’s Children International Film Festival (CIFF), a

film festival that showcases the talents of young filmmakers both locally and internationally. Balancing time as a lecturer and a filmmaker is one challenging act to perform, but the passion in forming a colourful world is the one thing he continues to pursue creatively.
